GMIV Isle of Wight crew - Sarah Lamb
Name: Sarah Lamb
Age: 17
Studying: A-Levels at Ryde High School
Voyage: El Gouna to Crete
Highlights: Visiting Cairo and going inside a pyramid
“It’s a beautiful Thursday morning, and we are sailing! We spent last night in a tiny port called Ras Budran, on the Eastern bank of the Gulf of Suez. We left our starting point, on Tuesday morning and have been sailing northwards to our next major destination - the Suez Canal.”
On her return Sarah said; “To start with I was a bit queasy - if I went below deck and lost sight of the horizon, then I felt sick! I soon got over that and enjoyed the voyage. We operated a watch system and managed to get into a good routine. In the week that we were preparing for the Mediterranean part of the voyage, it was quite strange as you ended up not talking to anyone other than your watch partner.”
“The whole experience has given me more confidence – I feel that if I can spend three weeks sailing in the Mediterranean with people I didn’t know, then I really can do anything. “
“We were all thrown together and had to learn to get on with each other and do all the tasks onboard, and just had to get on with it. To know that I can do that is really powerful.“
