East Cowes Project
The focus of activity in the Cowes Waterfront area over the past two or three years has been in East Cowes.
SEEDA has spearheaded the East Cowes Project which will bring a host of new facilities to put the heart back into the town – bring new job opportunities, leisure and retail facilities, new workspace and a real vibrancy to the town of East Cowes.
Successes to date:
- Partners support for GKN expansion at Osborne Works
- £5 million investment by English Partnerships for future delivery of a Solent-wide affordable homes initiative
- Joint funding of £200,000 by SEEDA and English Partnerships
- Project Master Plan
- Opening of Venture Quays accommodating over 100 new jobs, including an expansion by VESTAS Blades UK
- Relocation of Radiation Watch, Offshore Challenges, Vestas and Solent Composites Systems
- Sealift 2 development of innovative and environmental boat lifting system
- Sale of land and approval of premises for the expansion of local companies at Cowes Business Park
- Approval of mixed use development at Shepard’s Wharf, to include an International Keelboat sailing centre
- 3 new inward investments and support for 6 indigenous companies
