Round the Island Race - Inspire High School Challenge
Our challenge was to design an experience for young people to show how hard work pays off – we developed a Challenge for High School and College students for them to campaign and race a boat in the largest yacht race in the world.
Each team were allocated a boat and given the support and training to race it in the Round the Island race – what they learnt was that it’s not all glamour, they had to work really hard as a team and they learnt that the on shore support is just as valuable as the ability to sail.
Teams had to raise sponsorship to pay for their clothing, they had to run their own marketing and PR campaigns, they had to sort out all the logistics, from accessing the boats down to lunches and sun cream for the crew, they made videos they took all the promotion and race photos, they had to keep their sponsors happy, they had to make news pieces and press releases, they had to plan the course, check the weather and tides, update the website and sail the race.
