P1’s excellent results and the enthusiasm of the students highlight the potential of the island’s young people when they are nurtured and supported. As the Island’s reputation as a creative centre for music grows P1 with its many commercial links, is providing a source of trained employees which could encourage further development of this sector on the Island. Its students also enrich the local music scene and have potential to expand music-related business creation on the Island themselves.
The ethos of P1 is to provide opportunities and to raise awareness among students of the reality of the whole music industry. This is achieved through its many links and support from those currently working, or with recent experience in the industry. P1 resources for students include industry experienced staff, three professional recording studios, purpose built rehearsal rooms, a music technology suite, experienced instrumental tutors and links with the music industry, including the Isle of Wight Festival, the Bestival and Curious Generation.
