Isle of Wight Graduate case study
Feras Yosef
Feras has a degree in Msc Composites Materials from Imperial College. He relocated to the Isle of Wight for his ideal Engineering job after finishing at Imperial College in London.
Career Progression:
I work within a team of 10 experienced engineering professionals. They offer mentoring and guidance and I feel I have access to a great learning platform. I have been given huge responsibility, which I don’t think I could have gained elsewhere. I am very career focused, and my company reward staff for hard work which is so important when considering your options.
Why the Isle of Wight?
The Engineering sector in particular the Composites industry accounts for a significant part of the Isle of Wight Economy, and the Island is becoming renowned as a centre for Composites expertise. Career wise I think it has the edge over other places for this reason.
Additionally the Island is so much cheaper than other places in the UK, particularly after living in London. Which means I have more money to take home at the end of the day, and spend on things I enjoy doing.
What I love about Island Life?
The quality of life is great; I have a fantastic job which is really challenging, I can go out socialising in pubs and bars, but also I have other things to do; the access to watersports which I love such as Diving, surfing and waterskiing.
Settling into a new place
Although I have left all my friends behind in London, I have found settling in easy as people are so friendly here. My company has also been great to help with the transition, and showing me what’s what. The best thing of all - I can easily get up to London for a night out with my friends who live up there!
