Isle of Wight business offers new service to develop renewable energy solutions

Monday, April 30, 2007

With 50% of the Isle of Wight designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty it’s no surprise there is a huge interest in protecting our beautiful surroundings and exploring renewable energy options.

WaB Energy Systems is one Isle of Wight business working on the production of renewable energy options and have this week launched their new “STREAMS” service (Sustainable Tidal & River Energy Assessment and Management Service). STREAMS is a service which investigates the energy generation potential of rivers and tidal zones, it offers a phased service from initial assessment right through to engineering drawings and development plans. The international service is initially being offered to public and private clients in the UK and Ireland who wish to explore potential tidal and river energy generation projects.

WaB has extensive experience of marine engineering projects around the world and is growing its range of renewable energy services and products.

David Edwards, Managing Director of WaB Energy Systems says, “ The UK and Ireland have so much potential for generating renewable energy from tides, waves and river streams – and the opportunity is rising higher and higher on both national and local government agendas. The big issue is how to do this cost-effectively and that is where our approach can deliver key insights into how potential can be turned into reality.

WaB has been supported by the Isle of Wight Enterprise Hub, operated by the IW Economic Partnership.

Ken Dueck, Isle of Wight Enterprise Hub Director says , “We are really pleased to see WaB developing its renewable energy technology services. We have supported this growing Island company by providing access to University of Southampton research expertise, introductions to local and regional networks and potential investment sources. Given our natural tidal and river energy resources, we hope to see WaB becoming instrumental in establishing renewable energy projects on the Isle of Wight as well as internationally..
