Island inventor short listed for International award
Thursday, February 28, 2008
Island inventor, Graeme Hawksley of "Hybrid-Marine LTD" has spent the last five years researching the use of Hybrid/Electric technology in small marine craft.
This week Mr Hawksley was short listed for an international competition recognising excellence in Hybrid innovation. This event was organised by the Royal Thames Yacht Club and the award was presented on the 19th February 2008. Mr Hawksley attended this event and was presented to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, where they spent an animated few minutes discussing the environmentally friendly aspects of hybrid technology.
Mr Hawksley said, " It is very difficult for an inventor to develop an initial concept into a marketable product. This is doubly the case where the market for Marine Hybrids is not yet established. I have received a considerable amount of assistance from the IOW Enterprise Hub (Director, Ken Dueck) and this has brought me to the stage where I am now selling my products. To be short listed for this international award is a great honour for such a small company. To be placed alongside the largest European boat manufacture (Beneteau / Lagoon), while being presented to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, was a great privilege. This event recognised my work and once again shows how the Island has a lot to offer in world beating innovation."
