We love East Cowes!

Posted By Ian Boyd @ Island 2000 - Friday, September 28, 2007

Yes we do. It's a fantastic place and we love working here. We moved the Island 2000 office from Newport up to East Cowes 18 months ago (into Venture Quays with much help from SEEDA) and haven't looked back. The team's grown from 10 to 17, we have space to work and make stuff and experiment, and what very good company we keep these days: Vestas Technology (the engineers) and  their factory where we can see those huge blades rolling off the shop-floor; OC Group next door (occasional sightings of Dame E herself dragging enormous suitcases about) and Palmer Johnson upstairs designing splendid boats for America and the world. It's busy and all rather exhilllirating. And the town too. It's in a state of change right now, and of course that can be difficult, challenging, even upsetting for those who live and work here, but the town has such an extraordinary past (think rockets, flying boats and hovercraft) and such an exciting future (think new design, new public realm, new spaces and places to be ) that it's good to be in it, be a part of it. We're trying to do our own little bit to influence the look of what's to come through the No Barriers Project (with SEEDA, the Town Council and many, many others here). We take lovely images and ideas about the town and its character given to us by local people, and then display them on the blue boards that ring the redevelopment site. We're just now creating a fantasy landscape for the boards in preparation for The Big Draw coming to East Cowes on 6th October
